Gun Barrel City Skate Park

SPA Skateparks is proud to introduce the Gun Barrel City Skate Park located in East Texas, just a short drive from Dallas. The Gun Barrel Economic Development Corporation’s (EDC) goals for developing a public skatepark are two-fold. Firstly, to add prized public amenities thereby improving the quality of life for the City’s residents. Secondly, to promote commerce through skatepark tourism. The skatepark officially opened on July 8, 2016 with over 100 people in attendance. Check out the EDC’s website for Gun Barrel City Park.

Direct Input from local skaters dictated the the Gun Barrel City design-build concrete skatepark process. After an in-person meeting and a follow up online conference with the group, the SPA Skateparks team presented the final design for approval. Existing ground conditions proved unfavorable, consisting of expansive fatty clays. Subsequently, SPA remediated the soils in accordance with a geotechnical engineer findings. State accessibility reporting requirements were identified and adhered to. The skatepark’s terrain focuses on street and plaza type obstacles arranged for skaters to perform several tricks in a row with plenty of space in between. The rectangular design has two elevated sections on either side connected by a long, ground level plaza line in the middle. Therefore, banks, rails, ledges and manual pads designed for all age groups and skill levels make for endless lines. The EDC and City of Gun Barrel, Texas collaborated on the finishing touches such as landscaping, signage, parking and other amenities.
