New Braunfels Skatepark – JAWS Skate Park

The City of New Braunfels Skatepark is officially named the Jaws Skatepark in Ernest Eikel Park. Built in 2009 it’s become a skateboarding Mecca within sight of Interstate 35 between Austin and San Antonio. The Jaws Skatepark has all types of skateboard terrain for all skill levels. The park boasts a large flow bowl with roll in, over-vertical pocket and a spine feature. The spine connects to the park-style street course. A replica swimming pool has tighter transitions and caters to the large pool skating contingency in the area. A snake run houses a built-in mini ramp, pump bumps and a variety of features along a winding pathway. The multi level street course includes large planting areas full of palm trees and just about every type of skatepark feature imaginable.

The City of New Braunfels is ecstatic with the community’s use of the Jaws Skatepark. Additionally, the Economic Development Committee has experienced the benefits of skate park tourism. The New Braunfels skatepark is the host of multiple contest series, world renowned professional skateboard team demonstrations and other events.

Congratulations to the Skinner family in New Braunfels for organizing and leading the entire skatepark advocacy and fundraising efforts regarding the Jaws Skate Park. And as a second phase to the skatepark project, the Skinners organized the installation of a full skatepark lighting system in 2011. SPA Skateparks is happy to have assisted the City and Skinner family during the Tony Hawk Foundation grant application. The New Braunfels Skatepark (JAWS) in Eikel Park eventually received the largest grant amount available from THF of $25,000.
