City of Lake Jackson Texas Skate Park

The City of Lake Jackson Texas skate park opened to the public on July 6, 2022.

DESCRIPTION

The new 8,800 sf poured in place, custom designed skatepark is a far cry from what it replaced. For years the City had wanted to renovate the existing pre-fabricated metal ramps fenced within the parking lot of the Recreation Center. The new facility is located next to the city’s dog park. The COVID-19 pandemic postponed the start of construction in early 2020, just a few weeks prior to the anticipated groundbreaking. Two years later SPA arrived on site and completed construction on an accelerated time table to have everyone skating before the beginning of the school year.

SKATEPARK TERRAIN

The new skatepark’s design is generally resembles the shape of the letter “V”. A comprehensive community outreach program resulted in street and plaza influenced terrain. An open-ended bowl gives users some transitional terrain and can also be skated as a mini ramp. The site is relatively flat in topography so it was determined to sheet drain the storm-water from the concrete surface. Built up areas within the skatepark create features like banks, stairs, hubbas and down rails. THIS SKATEPARK HAS LIGHTS! And a water fountain, seating bench and several trash receptacles. The City plans to install landscape and grass in the Fall.

HOURS AND RULES for the Lake Jackson Skate Park

The skatepark is a public park. Not fenced and not supervised. The skatepark rules are visible from the parking lot. As of the time of this writing, the skatepark hours listed on the City’s website states, “Skate Park hours are the same as The Recreation Center, pending weather conditions. Hours are Monday-Friday, 5:45am-9:00pm, Saturday 8:00am-6:00pm and Sunday 1:00pm-6:00pm.” We suggest you contact the Parks Department if you’re planning a trip here to confirm.
