City of Port Lavaca Texas Skate Park

The skatepark opened to the public on August 5, 2022.

DESCRIPTION

The City of Port Lavaca Texas Skate Park effort began with local skaters asking Council for a new public skatepark. The City Council turned to the Port Lavaca Parks Board to gather more information, and present back to the City with a recommendation. Fast forward from 2017 – the skate park became a priority, the City fully supported the project, and it became a reality when it opened to the public in the Fall of 2022.

SKATEPARK TERRAIN

The skatepark within Wilson Park is located just off of Seadrift St. across from Jackson Roosevelt Elementary School. The skatepark’s 5,000 sf footprint provides a lot of flat ground between features and return walls. The skatepark design process included two public input meetings. The overwhelming message was to provide a plaza-style skate spot. Manual pads and ledged, a stair set and down ledge and rail are all placed purposefully with banked and transitional return walls at either end. The rectangular shape provides long skate lines with controllable speed.

The City of Port Lavaca’s Parks Department added a skatepark lighting system and other supporting amenities soon thereafter. Wilson park is undergoing other improvements such as walkways and an expanded parking lot.

HOURS AND RULES

The skatepark in Port Lavaca is a public facility and open every day unless otherwise posted. Park hours are from 6:00am – 11:00pm. We always recommend calling the City’s Parks Department to confirm prior to making a long drive. Additionally, the skatepark hours and rules sign is posted at the entrance to the skatepark.
